Sneak Peak...
Here are some background concepts for a story idea I am working on slowly but surely.
I will upload some character sketches next week sometime. This is just for a short trailer I am hoping to turn into something bigger hopefully in the future. We'll see.

Enjoy!

Boldly Going...

I've been meaning to push a sketch I did after I saw the new Star Trek trailer. I really dig the idea of a vast prairie landscape on the outskirts of a futuristic industrial sprawl. That image stuck with me so I decided to take a crack at it. Since I was still in paint mode from the last one I just finished, I managed to bang this puppy out in a few hours.
Painterly

I hope I didn't get too carried away with this one. I'm trying to build off of each concept piece and step into a large scale, one at a time. I want to give my environments a more painterly look. I discovered and learned a few things along the way. I'll get around to posting the preliminary sketch soon. I also created a few check-points during the process of this piece. I was inspired by some amazing coastal photos I came across. This one draws some similarities to the 12 Apostles off the Victoria coast in Australia. I always thought it would be cool for an entire civilization to be built right into a seaside rock formation. But I wanted the man-made technology to be subtle enough that it didn't fight the natural elements. Other than the planet in the sky and the cliff in the extreme foreground left (which was heavily filtered in PS) I am proud to say everything was painted from scratch!

I really enjoyed working on this. Hope y'all like it!

They came from the future...

I have an idea for a Hollywood script. A race of super-intelligent cyborgs from the not-to-distant future send a programmed killer back in time from the future to destroy Christian Bale before he self-destructs and makes a movie about robots from the future who threaten to travel back through time to destroy the leader of the human resistence.

...No?

Okay - then how about another Judd Apatow/Seth Rogen comedy?

...Deal!

This is an old re-post from the Radiohead concert I attended back in August. I took this down briefly when reorganizing my blog but forgot to put it back up until now. It's a fave of mine so I thought I'd re-share it.

DRAW THE CHEERLEADER...
...DRAW, THE WORLD?

Wow, that's a tall order. Maybe I'll just draw the Heroes chicks instead. Since I like drawrin' girls and I happen to double-like the Heroes Gals. So here is Claire Bennet in all her cheerleaderness. And a tricky one at that. Drawing girls is easy, but specific famous beautiful people are difficult because they have few physical blemishes to use as landmarks to exxagerate from, a tool used prominently in charicature art. Add to that, I am not the best charicaturist and do not count it among my strengths. However these ones were as close to Hayden Panettiere as I could get for now. I would like to eventually color and ink these but I am a little apprehensive of delving too deeply into the comic book genre without the proper tools. Once I get the other gals Elle (Kirsten Bell) and Nicki (Ali Larter) up and going later, probably after Xmas, I will start editing this entry and updating it as I clean and tweak these designs.

Enjoy!

and...Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to All.

That's no moon...

...that's a drawing! Eventually I would like to re-arrange this and find a more suitable composition for all the elements. But right now I'll just post this and move on to the other that is half-done.

Enjoy!

More to Come...
There has been a great deal of traffic here lately. So I would like to take the opportunity to acknowledge your appreciation for my work. Thanks for all the comments (both the posted ones and the ones said to my face). Don't worry, I am working on a couple of big things at the same time, and I'm at different stages with both of them. Please stay tuned for more this November.
Here's a quickie!

Thanks again!

They Came From Above!!!

This one took a bit, as I had to do layers of color overtop of the original drawing to get the correct shadows and lights and reflections. This was done 100% digitally. Originally drawn in Flash and un-vectored into my old version of photoshop. Look Ma, no pencils, no paper! Below is the process from line drawing to color and render.
